12 Days of Christmas - Day 12 - Giving Back

I always end my 12 Days of Christmas with a reminder of the importance of giving to those who need us. Giving back is something I do year round but the holidays are a particularly hard time for many and we can all contribute in our own ways. I promise that whatever way you choose to show generosity this year, it will bring you more joy than you can imagine. There's something about doing for others that improves our life immediately. We are on this planet to make it better and Covid has taught me that being good to others is more important than ever. Here are the ways I like to give over the holidays.

Acts of Kindness

Shovel you neighbours driveway, hold the door open for others, smile at strangers, give someone a compliment, volunteer your time, give a tip in situations that tips aren't customary like the gas attendant or buy the person who helps you at the grocery store a $5 gift card for Tim Hortons. Be kind. Everyday go out of your way to find ways to show kindness to others. It will have a snowball effect.

Donate Money

Times have been tough for charities over the last 2.5 years. They still have the same or more need than ever and providing the services and programs that help people cost money. Donating even $5 adds up.

Other ways to support charities financially is to buy silent auction items, buy raffle tickets and anything they are selling to raise funds. Here are a few charities that have ways to support them this holiday season:

Muscular Dystrophy Canada

Muscular Dystrophy Canada has a collection of Christmas tree ornaments that help them provide services, equipment and conduct research to help people with neuromuscular diseases like Muscular Dystrophy and SMA.

CP Kids & Families

CP Kids & Families is very close to my heart because of the wonderful work they do for children with a variety of ability challenges. From their most popular adapted bike program (they supply and fit kids in wheelchairs to specialized bikes so they can feel the wind in their hair!) to their summer camps, to their equipment lending program, to families supports for parents. CP Kids has been around for 70 years because they bring a massive amount of joy and positivity to the lives of many children and families. A cash donation, buying a silent auction item, or buying a 50/50 ticket!

Donate Things

Old clothes, old christmas decor, old household items etc. The saying, 'One man's trash is another mans treasure' stands true. Donate before Christmas so that your things can be bought as gifts, used as decor and enjoyed by others. Your old items may make someones Christmas wish come true!

Donate to the food bank

The Calgary Food Bank and The Vetran's Food Bank need us. MANY families are relying on your donations now and always, so please give. You can also check out volunteer opportunities by clicking the links below.

THANK YOU!! The warmest and most heartfelt thank you for joining me for the last 12 days. I love writing these blogs and your being here means the world to me. I hope your holiday's are filled with peace, joy and happiness. I hope you make a million memories, eat all the delicious food and enjoy your time with your family and friends. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
